We (Zak n' Kellie) are traipsing about the (world?) looking for the elements of what the coffee shop experience should be. I think we're hoping that, given enough time and enough persistence, the Right Shop will smack us gently in the taste buds and chuckle, "Congratulations ... You've made it to me."
Barring that, we aim to use our imaginations to cobble together all the best parts of all the best places, so (maybe someday) we'll know what actually makes the perfect cup, in the perfect house.
Wish us luck on the journey.
Oh ya... and you're invited.

*ahem* If I might be so bold as to suggest a place...
The next time you find yourself in the Santa Clarita area, take a jaunt up to Castaic where I live, and stop in with me at our local It's A Grind coffeehouse. It has, by far, one of the best coffeehouse atmospheres of any place I've been in. The coffee itself isn't anything to write home about...but sitting in there with a good book and a beverage and absorbing the surroundings is quite peaceful. Perhaps it's my own experience of sitting in there, in dialogue with my dad or other people that makes this coffee dwelling particularly comfortable.
I'm sure you know of these, but let's get y'all started...
1) Ritual Coffee, SF
2) Blue Bottle Cafe, SF
3) Farm Table, SF
4) Coffee Depot, Riverside CA (yeah, I had to throw in my all-time fave for you)
5) McClain's, Fullerton CA (yeah, I had to throw in my other all-time fave for you)
I can't wait to see what you come up with!
Ok so now Kellie has...like... five blogs!?
I have a couple for us to try when you visit in January :). Love you both!
We LOVE recommendations! Drop us a House and we'll put it on our list of Next Shots!
Love to all,
ZK
I'm not a coffee drinker, but I do appreciate ambiance. Here are some other people's favorites i remember from the urban days:
Emma's Coffee House (nopa), Philz (mission or castro), Coffee to the People (haight)
My favorite hands-down:
Bazaar Cafe (richmond). You should go :)
